The Department of Transport Marine Safety will also be working in conjunction with the Royal Life Saving Society of Western Australia (RLSSWA) in presenting the Old4New lifejacket upgrade and awareness campaign.

The campaign aims to promote the wearing of lifejackets at all times while boating and provides an incentive for people to act and upgrade their old, uncomfortable lifejacket to a new, easy to wear slim style inflatable lifejacket.

In 2015/16 there were 8 boating related deaths recorded in Western Australia. Of these, only 8% of people were wearing a lifejacket at the time of the incident. Studies have found that wearing a lifejacket doubles a person’s chance of survival once immersed in water.

The Old4New program is part of a wider campaign to get people into the habit of putting on a lifejacket each time they go boating. As part of the initiative people can bring the old, damaged or obsolete lifejacket and upgrade to a new self-inflating, slim-fitting style lifejacket at a discounted price of $65.00 (EFTPOS facilities available). Conditions and limits apply.

The Old4New lifejacket upgrades will be available for a limited time each Show day from 10am. Remember that stocks are limited and you’ll need to get in early!

The Department of Transport will also offer vouchers as part of the Old4New program. You can bring your old lifejacket in and receive a $15 voucher to use at one of their participating retailers.
